Static Analysis of Monopiles using Energy-Based Methods in GEO Tools: Theory

This book describes the mathematical models used in GEO Tools to analyze a single pile with various cross-sections embedded in a continuum soil media subjected to different static loads. GEO Tools is a simple user interface program and needs little information to define a problem.

GEO Tools includes several numerical methods for analyzing single circular piles under vertical and lateral loads based on Mindlin’s theory, P–y curves (El Gendy et al., 2025a, 2025b, 2025c), and elastic theory (El Gendy et al., 2023). This subprogram uses energy-based methods to account for soil resistance through two parameters, k and t—one for compressive resistance and the other for shear resistance. It can analyze single piles with various cross-sections embedded in multilayered elastic soil, subjected to vertical, lateral, and torsional static loads. The P–Δ effect is also available to account for the influence of axial load on lateral and torsional behavior.
