Behavior of Large-Section Supports under Heavy Loaded Struct Behavior of Large-Section Supports under Heavy Loaded Structures HOT

Developing the Suez Canal Axis at the East Port Said area needs to construct heavy loaded structures on a very soft clay layers. A lot of structural problems arising mainly from soil settlement were reported in the last few years. Barrette foundations can perhaps be the key solution for avoiding such settlement problems for heavy loaded structures. Most of soil structure interaction methods for analyzing large-section supports such as barrette foundations model the barrette and surrounding soil using 3D FE models. In which, the model leads to a large finite element mesh of a large system of linear equations to be solved. In this thesis, Composed Coefficient Technique (CCT) is adapted for analyzing barrette. The technique takes into account the 3D full interactions between barrette-barrette and soil-barrette. Due to the high rigidity of the barrette when related to the surrounding soils, a uniform settlement along the barrette height can be considered. This enables to compose the stiffness coefficients of the soil matrix into composed coefficients. Consequently, it leads to a significant reduction in the soil stiffness matrix. An application for analyzing single barrette and barrette group by CCT is carried out on the soil of the new area of East Said Port, in which the typical soil is very weak and structures in this area need to be supported on deep foundations. The application presents guidelines and diagrams for single barrette, barrette group and barrette raft that could be used in East Port Said.
